missing files

Once a file has been labled offline or missing am I able to still able to work with the images with out re importing the images again.

Welcome to the forum :)

If you have missing images, you can still work on them in the Library Module (e.g. keywording), but not in Development.

But - please don't re-import, as this will discard all the work you've done already on your images. Reconnect them to the original, when they're available again!!!!

So many people have lost their developments when re-importing images ....

Thanks for the info, however I have the image displayed but none of the dialog boxes are available for ajustment..new to light room sorry to be a pain. Iam trying to avoid having to ajust the files though photoshop if I can help it.
I used to know a handsome (lol) man called Beat who lived in darwin NT AUST.

What is the reason for the missing files? Please elaborate a little further on what you want to achieve and what you did so far. You really have to be careful in this situation, so you don't mess up your work already done.

gee you guys are amazing with the help, I as you can tell am new to the lightroom programe, been a pro wedding portrait photographer for 3'yrs and just been introduced to this amazing programe.
I havent made any ajustments to the original files and I also still have the images on my card and saved to my hard drive. So I should be safe, I will re import them to save time. Is it possable that they dissapeared because the files where not backed up? I loaded the files before i went away for 1' days. I assumed that they would stay there?
looks like I will have to do some more reading of the manual.

Before you re-import, I think it would certainly be useful to try to work out exactly what went wrong....if there's a flaw in your workflow (or basic understanding) it would be better to fix that now to stop it repeating itself further down the road. Files shouldn't 'just disappear', so something clearly went wrong, we just need to find out what.

As Beat suggested in his earlier post, giving a step-by-step account of your workflow in relation to importing would be a good starting point....

Since you say the files are on your hard drive and presumably you know where, is it possible that the path to them was changed after they were imported into LR? This would be the most common explanation for LR not to find them. If so, it is a simple job to right click on any file in LR's folder tree that has a question mark icon, select 'Find missing folder' and navigate to it.

Another thing you can try: Right-click any missing image and choose "Show in Explorer". The dialog box will tell you somewhere where it is expecting to find it.
