What is the score with this temporary filter?

I moved some folders and files from my internal to external hard drive within LR and now I have one 'missing file' in this filter, marked as '1/''. If I right click I can 'Show in Finder' OK and 'Go to Folder in Library' OK. There's no question mark icon either. I'm not aware of any metadata (did a Cmd+S before) or other settings to update on it.

What's "missing" about it? LR knows where it is and can read the history and all metadata, keywords etc. And then what's the '1/'' referring to? The user guide wasn't much help and I searched threads before posting; if I've missed a previous post, please point me to it.

It's not the end of the world, it's only one pic, but a kinda frustrating loose thread.

Many thanks.

Kind of obvious to try, but have you tried restarting Lightroom? The "1 / '" thing makes me think it hasn't "refreshed" its little thingie - whatever keeps count - yet.

Otherwise, I think I had that once too. I don't remember how it went away, which makes me think it went away by itself.

That's one obvious thing I've not tried ;)

I'm in the middle of a bit of a run today, big export still running now. Fine way to spend a bank holiday, cooped up indoors on such a glorious warm sunny day. Not running in any marathon (Dublin or Cork) but running headless in LR!

Will let you know if it miraculously disappears after a restart.

The teeniest weensiest little bit buggy..... oooooooh, you're being nice to it today!!!

My general recommendation.... close your eyes and don't look at it! If it really really bugs you, try importing your entire catalog into a new one - that seems to clear it.

Hehe thanks Brad..

Well, the restart did 'make it go away' though now I have another pic that's an 'Error Image' that has nothing to do with the the other one (same volume but different set of folders altogether). And the user guide has not a single mention of 'Error Images'. Ah well I can make that go away too by choosing to delete this temporary collection :D

Oh dear, it's not my day today. Just moved a folder (after another restart), again from internal to external volume and all within LR. Got the progress bar and then it completed. Within LR have the folder in the new location with ' images and the folder in the old location with all images but in red. On the disk, the folder only exists in the new location with all images intact. I'd have thought this kind of thing would have been resolved in an earlier version. I'm surprised. Looks like I have to re-import the images in their current location (i.e. sync folders). Can't 'move' them again (i.e select the pics and drag them to the new folder.. as it says it can't find the original.. then if I choose one and try to show in finder, and navigate to the location, it'll warn me that they both have different file names even though they are identical). And the risk with importing again is applying no presets or keywords.. potentially overwriting the existing. What a pig.

Edit: re-importing without applying any new presets/etc does preserve metadata et al. I also had to remove the old (red) folder from LR. But now it's rendering standard previews for the new folder, even though there were perfectly good ones in the old one that screwed up. I should just forget about LR for today and go for a drink. But then I'll be so behind

Well roll on LR2!!! I'm not a happy camper at all!

Catching up with some admin and moving folders to archive within LR and the issue persists - just moved a folder of 2''+ images and guess what. Had to re-import and now waiting for standard previews to render (sure I could change this setting). And so the source folder is now in red and thinks it's still got tons of images in it even though it can't find them because they're no longer on the internal drive. I have more folders to move, what a palaver. Not only that but for some reason it seems to have changed my colour labels for me too and unstacked all my stacks. Maybe I'll have to put up with the unstacking. Seriously getting my hump now.

Well well well. Bingo but no champagne, just a quiet night's sleep.

Finally sussed it. Oh the tears I shed during my frustrations.

(not really, just for dramatic effect, people)

I moved a folder of 2''+ images and ranted in the above post. I wanted to move the 'part 2' folder to the archive too but checked my Collection before I did so and saw the ? mark and wanted to locate in Finder. It told me that the filename had changed and the file was already associated with another image (or words to that effect) and refused to let me sync it. That's when I smelled a rat as both filenames were the same.

Except that one extension was in lower case and the other in upper case. Then I remembered I did a bunch of renaming outside of LR a few months ago and what confused me was that during testing it had seemingly worked for the files in that LR folder, so I did it for some other folders too, but it didn't work for them. The change was the extension from lower case (.dng) to upper case (.DNG).

The physical files on the hd were DNG but even after the change the very same files in LR were still dng, and were synchronized & saved several times over the period without a hitch. I forgot about the renames I had made.

Before moving the 'part 2' folder, I batch renamed the files on the hd outside of LR (i.e. using Apple's Automator script tool) so that the extension was again lower case, just as it appears in LR. The move went without a hitch.

So to repair the 'part 1' folder I synchronized my red source folder, which placed it into the correct location on the Archive drive and added the files that were apparently still in it. So my folder now had twice the images - the stacked groups with 'dng' and the others, unstacked 'DNG'.

I selected the stacks & inverted the selection then Trashed all the DNG files. But now my stacks were all showing ? mark and the folder itself on the hd was empty.

I moved the Trashed images out of Trash to a temp folder and ran a rename batch to ensure that every file was in fact 'dng' then copied them back into the target folder in the correct location on the Archive drive.

And they lived happily ever after.

So - be very very careful about renaming your files, LR is very touchy!!!

Stas ....

Yes, words to the wise! I second the motion, if you have files imported into LR, tread very carefully when touching them in any way outside of LR. Beware of unintended effects. Look before you leap, try one or two before you do hundreds.

Hehe... I lept and I wept! :cheesy:

And I'd say try TWO rather than one - I tried one and look where it got me. Worked perfectly when I tested, then worked for some folders but not - it seems - for most of them! Lessons learned, anyway.
