Missing EXIF in exported JPG from DNG

Hi,

in LR 2.2 there is a bug exporting JPG from a DNG (Sinar Hy6 65 digital back).
There is no EXIF data included. PS and Infranview show only an empty field.

Exporting to TIFF or PSD works and has EXIF, but JPG not.

DNG's from that digital back can be found on my web page

That could be a good catch, place a bug report using the link in the nav bar near the top of the page.
That is a big d/l 13'mb!!! ..........

Yes, there are several files in.

32 MB each, as compressed DNG. Was for Sinar to give to there customers as demo data from that back, but should also help Adobe to inlude the support into ACR and LR.

Bug is placed.

Interesting, with 2.2 and 2.3 I find the exif data all there on jpegs created from the DNG's. I added ratings, colour labels and captions and they all showed up as well.
Both in PSCS4 and LR.
I'm on a Mac G5 1'.4.11, what OS are you using??

I use Windows XP pro SP 3 on a quad core system.

If I re-import into LR I can see the EXIF data but the latest version of Infranview does not show them, nor does PS Elements 2.
Windows 7 picture viewer can see them also.

Is ist possible that there is a tag inside the DNG that confuses other software ?

If I use TIFF Infranview and others have not problem showing the EXIF data.

That is a possibility and would still be a bug probably.
I can see the exif i.e serial number, capture date, etc as well as the IPTC data

JOG file does not contain JExif header

As seen with my hex view the JPG created from the Sinar DNG's not NOR contain the JExif header.

Olny the Photoshop resouce blocks are there.
That explains why PS can see data, as PS looks in its own tags and resouce blocks, but normal software (Infranview) can not see anyting, right.

Please foreward that we get it fixed.

I know that and I have already reproted the bug.

But, as I never get any reply and there is no way to attach images or file, I posted it here again.

Missing EXIF info too

I am using LR 2.3 and when I upload to Flickr EXIF data is making it to flickr but when I try and use OPANDA to view the EXIF information in the JPEG(i am processing CRT raw files in LR and uploading as a JPEG to flickr, if that matters) it says "The image file doesn't support exif information" as far as I know I am not doing anything any different then a few months ago when EXIF info made its way to flickr and also could be read using OPANDA if I clicked on my uploaded JPEGS...the reason this is an issue is because I frequent a forum where I post my pictures and many times members try to view the EXIF to give feedback on how to improve what I am doing.

any and all help is much appreciated....and FWIW, the "minimize all metadata" box is UNCHECKED as well as the Mogrify plugin "Strip all metadata from exported image" box is UNCHECKED

You import CR? raws into Lr. The camera/shot specific EXIF data is shown in Lr?
You export JPGs which may be subsequently processed with LRx/Mogfrify and then:

a) uploaded to Flickr, wherein the EXIF data is correctly displayed,
b) examined with Opanda, wherein there's a problem with viewing the EXIF data.

Is that what's happening?

Have you taken steps to isolate the problem? Is Mogrify always used? Have you tried other EXIF aware applications, for instance Phil Harvey's Exiftool, which is recognized as the gold standard in this area.


Just as a matter of clarity, we are talking about EXIF (i.e. the camera appended technical information, including such things as shutter speed, aperture, etc.) as opposed to IPTC which is the more administratively oriented stuff like keywords, captions and copyrights, correct?

I shoot Raw/Jpeg and upload those files to my PC via Zoombrowser and then upload from the PC into LR(importing RAW(crt files) and the JPEG files)...I only process the RAW(CRT) files* and then do the export from LR to Flickr...Mogrify is always used...I havent used Phil Harvey's exiftool...unfortunately I am a newb and didnt even know it exsisted...I guess I should google it....and yes I am talking about EXIF(shutter speed, iso, focal length etc)...I guess I can try and remove mogrify and then do an upload to see if that fixes the issue but I am 99.99% sure that I was able to view EXIF information on previous items that were uploaded using Mogrify

Also, I should ask if I am doing things the correct way by importing the CRT/JPEGS into LR...earlier in this thread someone said something about DNG...I hate to say it but I have no clue what that means or if I should be converting to DNG and then processing the DNG instead of the CRT file....if that is the case...I would appreciate any help/clarification on how to do that.

Right now, you may have a problem with Lr, Mogrify, or Opanda. Until you experiment by changing something in the process, it'll be hard to identify.

I could see your workflow leading to a unlikely but potential glitch with the IPTC metadata export, but the EXIF should indeed be working.

You use the word 'upload' in a context that I'm having trouble grasping:

What upload is that? Don't you just export a JPG file to the local drive, and then examine that file with Opanda?

by upload I mean export to Flickr via LR with the Jeffrey Friedl LR Flickr addon...I disabled Mogrify and did another export and the EXIF was still missing using OPANDA(on my Laptop) as well as using a FireFox Exif addon viewer on my PC...I also then just took an unprocessed JPEG(shot in the camera) and uploaded it with a flickr uploader and and uploaded it from my Laptop to Flickr and again the EXIF does upload to Flickr but doesnt stay in the JPEG.

also i am trying to figure out how to import the CRTs as DNGs and cant figure that out either
