Migrating Lr library to a new ether net networked storage device

Computer gear:

2'" iMac 2.16Ghz w/ 3Gb RAM. Multiple Firewire 4' 'external drives. Network storage device (Western Digital ShareSpace; 4 1Tb drives configured for RAID 5)

The time has come to add new storage. I want to copy my priamary library contents over to a RAID 5 array (it is the Western Digital ShareSpace device with 4 1 terabyte disks for a total of 2.6x Tb capacity, and I'd like to get Lr 2.1 back to spped as soo nas possible.

Problems:

1.) Neither SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner seem to have access to the ShareSpace device, which is connected to my system via an ethernet port on an Apple Airport Extreme. Bonjour does see it. The iMac is connected to the Airport Extreme via ethernet as well.


2.) Lightroom doesn't seem to see the device either.

Any and all help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Lightroom will only see it after you make a first import of one or more images from it. Can you try to create a master folder on your NAS and put one image in it then import that into Lightroom? If Lightroom see the NAS after this import, just delete that image and after making a backup of your catalog, move your top level folder(s) within Lightroom to the NAS top level folder that you should now see.

One thing to check before you start moving things Ellis, is that your folders panel shows a nice tidy hierarchy of folders, rather than a loooooong list. Once you've got a folder hierarchy, it's easy to relink the folders that go 'missing' when you move them from one hard drive to the other.

My preference is to do an OS copy of the folders from their current location to the new location, and then relink the files. I often tend to use file sync software such as Chronosync to double check that everything has copied over completely.
