can i pull up the metadata in develop module rather then jumpimg back to libary? on the side, i feel i'm starting to untap the beauty of LR via sites/forumns where knowledge is shared openly- thank you

In a limited fashion, yes. Press I for toggling a couple of Info Overlays that can be configure with the View Options panel Cmd/Ctl-J.
