Metadata Status continually changing

In the Library Module, I've noticed that with some photos, the "Metadata Status" field continually fluctuates between "Up to date", "..." and "Has been changed". Why does it do that?

You have 'automatically write to xmp' turned on in Preferences?

Thanks Victoria. I do indeed have it on. BTW it's in Catlog Settings rather that Preferences. So, is it bester practice to have it on or off? If the problem persists I'll certainly turn it off. Actually my question was why does the Metadata Status field continually cycle on some files not others. It's as if something was constantly changing the metadata without me doing anything.[/size]

I'm still on the fence about the autowrite to xmp switch, so no right or wrong answer.

That would explain why it was cycling, if you were actually changing the files, but doesn't solve the mystery of why it's doing it on its own. Sounds a little buggy. You can either close your eyes and ignore it, or try exporting the catalog to a clean catalog to see if it drops the mystery along the way. Clears some weirdness, so it's worth a try.

There is no one right answer for the autowrite to XMP switch. It's clearly needed for some, clearly not needed for others, and a tradeoff for the masses in the middle. Ignore those who say you MUST turn it on; you need to figure out for yourself whether it's right for you (and we can certainly help with that, if you need help with that.)
