I recently updated from Lightroom 4 to Lightroom 6 (CC). I am also in the process of transferring my image files to a new backup drive. Virtually every file now shows the "!" in the top right-hand corner. When I click on this I get the following message: "The metadata for this photo has been changed by both Lightroom and another application. Should Lightroom import settings from disk or overwrite disk settings with those from the catalog?"

Lightroom prompts me to "Overwrite Settings". Each time I do so, i seem to have no further issues. My questions are: 1) is this normal and an actual problem based on my situation and 2) is there a global method to overwrite settings?

Thank you.

Jeff

The XMP files need to be updated because Lightroom 6 (CC) stores more metadata (like dehaze settings, for example) than Lightroom 4. No need to worry. You should be able to select all images and then click on the exlamation mark to update all of them at once.
