Hello

Is there metadata that indicates the last time a file was edited?

Thanks
Ray

Someone else shared how to use the last edit date to create a collection. Not sure if that's you use but here's the collection I frequently use to get back to a photo

Building on the previous replies, other options that might help:

- In addition to smart collections' Edit Time, you can sort Library Grid view by it -- do View > Sort > Edit Time. Note that LR's "Edit Time" is the last time any develop setting or any metadata field was changed (e.g. color label or star rating). Sometimes LR makes internal changes to metadata fields that you're not aware of, so this may not be useful for your needs.

- The Any Filter plugin lets you search, filter, and sort by several criteria:

Last Edit Time: This is the same as the Edit Time criteria of smart collections.

Date/Time Last Develop Edit: When the photo was lasted edited in Develop (as shown in History).

Date/Time First Develop Edit: When the photo was first edited in Develop (as shown in History).

For example:

"I am looking for a way to display the time of last edit in the metadata panel"

There is no way to do that with either built-in commands or a plugin.

The Metadata Viewer plugin won't be able to display the catalog's Edit Time -- it can only display what's recorded in the file's metadata, and LR doesn't record the last edit time in that file metadata. And the viewer displays its output in a separate window that's displayed after invoking a command.

The Search Replace Transfer plugin can display very many otherwise hidden catalog fields in the Metadata panel. It doesn't make Edit Time available, though it does make Edit Count available. It could easily make Edit Time available as well. But unfortunately, the plugin relies on using custom plugin metadata fields for displaying fields in the Metadata panel, and the very act of displaying fields changes the Edit Time to "now" (since it modifies the custom fields).

There is an undocumented token "debug.touchTime" one can use when creating a custom metadata panel (which doesn't require programming skills), but it displays Edit Time as the number of seconds since 1/1/2001 00:00:00 UTC, and there's no way to format it as a date/time:

It should be noted that if you use the FILTER option when using AnyFilter that the Last Edit Time is updated. This seems to happen any time you use FILTER instead of SEARCH

If you have a Smart Collection like this is will contain ALL you photos after using FILTER in AnyFilter. Adobe needs to start fixing some OLD long time bugs.

Very good point -- it's the same issue as with the Search Replace Transfer plugin and Edit Count. If you use Any Filter > Search and uncheck the option Show Results Using A Library Filter, that won't change Edit Time or Edit Count. But there's not much advance to that over using smart collections.

In general, though, I don't think Edit Time is what most people are interested in -- I think most want to know the last time they made changes in Develop, and for that, Edit Time is not very useful, since it includes changes to any metadata. Any Filter's Date/Time Last Develop Edit gives the date/time of the last change in Develop.
