I have become bogged down with multiple catalogs in LR2 and want to merge some of them, but I'm not sure of the procedure for this. Can anyone help please.

Chose one of them as your main catalog and then use the File > Import From Catalog... menu command.
It might take some shuffling round once you have an uber catalog, but just do the work in Lightroom and all should be OK.
You will feel many benefits to 1 Catalog!
