Hello, I have set up Lightroom and it is working fine. Now I want to make a backup on an external drive of my pictures, the catalogues and Lightroom settings, so that in case of a PC Crash, I can recover everything smoothly.

I don't know how to do it so, that the catalogues don't loose contact to the picture base whenever I would have to start lightroom all over from a new PC or drive.

Are there any hints to my problem ?

As long as you keep your pictures in the same structure you could always copy them back there if you had a crash.

As for your catalogue you just need to make sure that it is backed up.

On windows, I have a robocopy job that runs nightly and automatically moves over any changed files. Seems to work pretty well.

You can set up LR to backup your catalogue when it starts up. The default directory is the same as the current catalogue so make sure you select an external drive when you first do this and it will remember for each subsequent backup. It's advisable to back-up the catalogue when LR is closed so that it it is not being written to while it is copied.

Sorry, couldn't resist, but isn't ANY backup intelligent???

Thanks for your rhetoric comment.
Printing all your pictures is also a kind of backup, don't you think EGD5 ?
