I am helping a friend move LrC catalog 10.4 from older Macbook running Mac OS 10.14.6 to new M1 Mac using Big Sur, Mac OS 11.6. All image files are stored on an external drive formatted Mac OS Extended journaled. New computer has not, yet, been able to even SEE the external drive, much less read or write. Do we have to juggle the files around on to an external drive that is formatted APFS? Is there a trick to allow APFS to read the Extended journaled format? I know we need a good backup of the external drive before reformatting anything. Advice?

I got a new M1 iMac earlier in the summer. I used the Migration Assistant to transfer all of the critical files to the new M1 iMac. All of my external drives once connected were visible and available to the new iMac and Lightroom when I opened Lightroom.
