Not to start a religious flame war.

For good or for bad, I'm currently a Windows guy, but I'm not religious about it, just used to it. My first several computers were Apples. My first Mac was named 'Lisa'. I had an Atari ST with a hardware Mac emulator. But for 25+ years in a corporate environment, I've been on PCs and carried the economy of scale, and position on the learning curve, thru to my wife's business and our home network. I have been considering a Mac desktop for my photo work.

I had the opportunity to try a mega-Mac in the Apple store the other day. I forget exactly, Mac Pro?, dual-quad something or other, the most expensive one in the store, close to US$4k, without the display.

LR was not installed, but Aperture was. I played with Aperture for about 1' minutes, and the speed and responsiveness were breath-taking.

Can anyone contrast their LR vs Aperture experience on Mac? Are you getting similar performance between the two? Is the speed I saw a Mac thing, an Aperture thing, or a dual-quad, tera-hertz thing?

I just can't believe how fast it was.....

I have both on a fast Mac Pro, and I find LR much faster and easier to work with. I always wanted to like Aperture and gave it a fair shake, but it never grabbed me.

Thanks guys.

I had seen the digitalmedia comparison, some time ago, I remember the cowboy pictures.

I haven't had my hands on a Mac in several years, or Aperture ever.
My main interest was that Aperture on that monster Mac seemed very crisp and snappy compared to LR on my reasonably strong XP machine.

And from what you say, LR would have been even snappier.

I was fairly happy with LR on my XP, until I tried the Mac. Looks like I'm gonna have to put that on my wish list. Unfortunately the configuration I 'd like is gonna cost as much as the first house my wife and I bought when we got married 3'+ years ago.

Thanks for the input .....brad
