Ordered a Mac Mini and I have question. I did some searches and it's still not clear. There are two ways to do this. Migrate off my iMac or off the external drive that Time Machine backs up to. Which is preferable? I have done this directly from device to device before. Recent example - off my old MacBook Air to my new one.

Since I'll have to muck around a bit to get my iMac to work as a monitor I thought it might be easier for the Apple Store to do this for me. I'm wondering if I should bring my iMac or external drive in? The drive will be easier. The only reason I'm asking is because of that example when I recently migrated to my new MacBook Air. When I opened the new Air everything was identical to the old one. Does Time Machine do this as well?

Yes, Time Machine does the same (provided you did not exclude anything from the Time Machine backup, that is).

That was what I thought but I wanted to be sure. Thanks

I’ve done it both ways. Using the Migration assistant with both machines on the same network is probably going to take longer. However, It is for me the cleaner more straight forward option. I worry that i may have excluded critical user data (like Previews). I am able to fire up migration assistant and if need be let the migration work overnight

That went well. I bought in my external drive and the Apple Store was hesitant because it was not an Apple product. I was prepared to go home and get the iMac but they agreed to do it. Back at home I just had to sign out of my Adobe account in the iMac, sign in on the mini and plug the external drives in. Everything is set up and ready to go.

I know there are a few way to use an iMac as a monitor but I'm going to give Luna Display a try. My mini was supposed to arrive on the 14th but came on the 7th. To save few dollars I picked the standard shipping so the Luna is not here year. For the mini I'm using an old 42" TV as a temporary monitor which is on the floor behind me. The Luna apps are installed and ready to go. I can live without LrC for a few days. I can't turn my head 180 degrees,
