It views metadata and images from a Lightroom catalog without having a copy of Lightroom.

At ImageIngester.com.

Marc, that was a short week!

Thanks, working great so far for me. (An experiment shows it even working across a network share as well, so .... I'm ecstatic)

Thanks.......

Brad--

Can you give me some details of your network? My understanding is that sometimes SQLite3 works across a network, and sometimes it doesn't.

What are the OSes, versions, and service packs involved in your network? Is it plain Windows sharing, or something more exotic?

Marc, following your first posts about it, I spent my whole monday reading all about SQLite3. One of the things I learned is that by default, the precompiled versions of SQLite3 are EXCLUSIVE on Mac and SHARED on Windows. To have it SHARABLE on Mac, you have to recompile the source with an option set.

On SQLite3, when a user attempt a modification, the whole database gets locked (few milliseconds) then the lock is released. So, it is possible to have more than one user at a time but not many. I suggest to stay below 1' users. Lightroom can sometimes do massive updates so, I do not recommend more than one at a time. But as your app is read only...

More over that, not all OS use the same SHARING techniques! Even between Windows versions, it is not all the same: Win 2''', 2''3, XP use SMB. Win Vista use a more proprietary format SMB2 to stay even more away from the others (Look for SMB in Wikipedia).

Additional information HERE and HERE.

Marc,

The two machines I happened to test are XPPro SP2.

The "source" where the catalog resides is simply a Windows shared directory. From the "user" machine I simply navigated to it across the network from the LRViewer Open dialog. Not even a subst or map network drive required.

NEAT! So, when one say it doesn't always work, maybe it is on Mac using the PreCompiled SQLite?...
