Since upgrading to V14 of LrC, I've noticed that it randomly switches to the import dialogue while I'm in develop mode. Otherwise it works as expected. It reverts back to develop mode if I click the 'cancel' button, but will flip to the import dialogue again at some time later in the same session. Is there a switch or control I missed? Is this an undocumented feature?
Thanks,
MJO

Do you perhaps have a camera card inserted into your card reader? This feature is a Windows feature to automatically call the Import dialog of LrC (or other such Photo app) when ever a camera card with photos is detected. This is the only way I know of for Lightroom to invoke the import diallog automatically.

There is also a Windows hot key combination that will invoke the Import dialog. Perhaps you are accidentally pressing these during develop

Nope. No card inserted. It doesn't give me a drive or folder that would have photos on it, just an import screen with no details.

Try unchecking the option Preferences > General > Show Import Dialog When A Memory Card Is Detected. I haven't tested with LR 14, but in the past, when any storage device was connected, this would cause the Import window to open. There have been a few reports over the years of utilities that would create virtual disks on a regular schedule in background, triggering Import.

And some reports that a flaky connection to a storage device would cause its status to "flap" in Windows, sending "new device mounted" events to LR.

I think I found the culprit. I have an external SSD that has games and other software on it, and I think that is now being viewed by LrC as an SD card, even though it does not point to a specific drive. I've had it that way for years, and apparently now V14 is getting picky about external storage.

Check if the external SSD has a DCIM folder. That might trigger external sd behaviour.

I think it's more likely that there's a hardware issue, e.g. a loose or flaky cable, that's causing Windows to unmount and mount the drive frequently, sending the mounted event to LR, which then opens the Import window (unless you've unchecked that option).

This happens to me for LR 13.1.
I think it's because my hard drives spin down when not in use, then when they start up again, the import window pops up in LR, and sometimes Windoze plays a tune as well.
Don't know whether it's the "download" drive (all my photos are copied from SD card to this drive and are imported from there) or the Picture drive containing the files in the LR catalog. I just put up with it.

You can disable this feature. I've in all of the years using computers have never see a valid case for this feature. On my Mac, I have the "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" switched off.
