It seemed that once Adobe put it's cloud focus on the Lightroom family of products, the initial Lightroom Classic sync to the Adobe cloud got no attention , The process was flakey and these were many element in that workflow where the process would get dropped. This required Logging out of Lightroom Classic. Logging out of the Creative Cloud app, rebooting the computer and restarting the Creative Cloud app and LrC just to clear up any images that were getting hung up.

Which the release of V13.3, the LrC process has gotten some overdue "love"
It appears that all of the LrC sync issues have beed resolved and more diagnostics are available
The preference tab has added three new diagnostic buttons to determine what is happening to the sync process. In the Lightroom Desktop app, a new "Won't Sync" album can be created to identify problem images.
This has gone far in easing some of the almost constant frustration. Here is the Adobe Help page on the new features of Sync: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-c...rackingid=Y2KRGPLQ&mv=in-product#changes-13-3

Please also note the updated troubleshooting steps for sync, and most notably that we shouldn't recommend rebuilding sync data or trashing the sync.lrdata file from 13.3 onwards. https://www.lightroomqueen.com/troubleshoot-sync-with-classic/
I always bothered me to encounter others that were having sync issues and posted here: "I've rebuilt my sync data several times but..." For all of the sync issues I had, I never needed to rebuild the sync data.

I still think is a mostly unnecessary option and was surprised that Adobe chose to include it as a 'button" when in extreme cases which are the only ones the Adobe recommends rebuilding and a rebuild can be done without the button. Their caution states "Don't rebuild sync data unless specifically directed by the Adobe team." Yet this caution is not present on the Preferences dialog. A user with sync problems is tempted to click on the button just to see if that will help.

I suspect the button will disappear soon. It was a useful step in the past, but as a one-off rather than repeatedly. The way sync is done has changed significantly now though.

I think Adobe should be applauded for working to correct this long standing issue. So often the comments about Adobe are critical.

I updated to LrCv13.3 yesterday and it still appears to be migrating and checking the synced data. On the sync cloud it shows syncing and says its syncing 6 then 16 then 8 photos etc. The numbers change contantly and sometimes includes uploading and downloading. Is this part of the migrating and checking process ? its been almost 20 hours now and while this process continues everything in LrC is very slow and clunky. I want to sit this out until its done but am tempted to just turn sync off. Any thoughts ? I have around 90,000 photos in the cloud - all smart previews.

How many images? I have about 25000 that sync between LrC and the Adobe Cloud. And LrC has a total of about 100,000. The update process only too me about 20 minutes.

around 90,000. So it could be another separate syncing issue. But, if its stuck on certain photos I would expect the number of photos syncing to remain the same and not constantly changing.

Part of the time required is dependent on how out of whack the syncing had become over time. With 90,000 synced images it can take awhile. According to Adobe, It is expected for the numbers to jump around during this one time process so don't fret about that part. Let it run overnight and see how it looks in the morning.

Yes over time syncing between my LrC and the cloud will be seriously "out of whack". I shall persevere.

If you need to use Lightroom for a bit, it should be safe to pause it to improve performance, and then let it carry on running when you walk away

Sorted. The numbers stated as being synced eventually settled down to a constant 6 and there were 6 "stuck" photos in sync. The way you view sync issues has now changed. Now when you are in "Sync Preferences" you have to hold down the Alt key (windows) to get the pop up box "View Sync Status on Web".

Sounds not right. I optimized catalogue, no pending sync problem, restarted the system and let the update process take all resources. Update process for my 60 000 pictures was finished in less than an hour.

A lot of the time needed will depend upon the processor, GPU and Working storage. Perhaps you and I have fast high end computers.

I actually have a rather simple system. It is a Dell XPS with a 1st generation i7 and an old AMD Radeon 270X with only 2GB. Internal RAM is OK with 32GB. Will soon upgrade but Classic still works fine. I tried the cloud version when i was released but that was a nightmere on my system, took me three days to get everything back to Classic.

I suspect that without the 6 stuck photos it would have been a lot quicker. Everythink is hunky dory now and v13.3 seems to be a bit quicker. I have uploaded photos and LrC is much more responsive with the cloud than before.

Is there an explanation of what this process is doing? Sorry if i missed the link elsewhere. It does seem like Adobe is addressing some foundational performance issues in addition to new AI features, so that is good.

I updated Lightroom Classic 5 days ago and it’s still syncing. Any interaction like flagging an image, for example, takes 3+ minutes to respond. I have 6 weddings waiting to be edited. I’m so ready to get Adobe out of my life.

Oh that sounds painful. Have you tried pausing sync so you can work, then unpausing it again when you walk away? Also a reboot would be worthwhile if you haven't done so recently. Check the post Gnits linked to for sync troubleshooting too.
