Lightroom Version Number
13.5
Operating System
  1. macOS 14 Sonoma
LrC is using huge amount of application memory, even when the app is only open and I'm not using it. According to the Acitivty Monitor it is currently using 233 GB while I'm not using it. It results in warning messages that I'm running our of application memory and it has also resulted in a crash.

I've seen that there are also other users experiencing the same (or similar) issue. However, so far I have not found a solution. I should stress my knowledge of computers is quite limited. Usually I manage to resolve software issues with a search online, but so far I haven't.

The only practical solution now is to close LrC and restart, but I did not have this issue before and would think there must be something wrong that can be resolved?

Is there anyone who knows how to solve this issue or where to find guidance solving this issue?

Performance issues can have many causes, but many of the recent cases discussed here have involved the scenario of
a) Writing xmp data to file
b). Synching images to the cloud

Are these features of your config / workflow.

Welcome to the forum. This was recently brought up in in a recent thread among others: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/comm...-of-application-memory-lrc-using-400gb.51073/ . It is a somewhat know issue that has not yet been resolved by Adobe. Rebooting is one short-term fix. The other would be to wait for their next release which should hopefully address the problem. Or, you could revert back to an earlier version that did not exhibit these problems if that is not too inconvenient. As @Gnits mentioned, syncing is an issue at the moment for a number of folks.

Good luck,

Thank you!! This helped me to find what appears to be the solution. It was indeed a problem with synching images to the cloud.
