Catalogs LRC possessed. Running very slowly, erratic. Spent countless hours with Adobe who decided I needed new computer, so spent a fortune on new computer .

Still having problems. Desperate for help.

Can you explain your problem in more detail? We'd love to help, but you have to tell us what in particular is wrong.

Lightroom is running very slowly, crashes, even with simple tasks like rating images. I bought a new computer 128 RAM, fast processor, RTX 5080 gpu, clean install of everything but problems persist.

create a new empty catalog, import a bunch of images (if they are the same images in your regular catalog, use the ADD or Copy (not MOVE) mode in the import dialog). Do the same sort of tasks in this test catalog as you have problems in your regular catalog. see if things are just as slow or have speeded up.

Let us know and we can then propose a next step.

Only played for a few minutes but new catalog seems to be working better.

New catalog seems to be better
This suggests. an accummulation of detritus in the master catalog. Some records in some tables get orphaned and the Lightroom process gets confused or lost.

A solution would be to open your master catalog and do the following:
  1. In the Library Module select the menu {Library}{Find All Missing Photographs...}
  2. If the result returns a number of missing photos, resolve (find) these before going to step 3.
  3. Select all of the images in the catalog (grid view of "All Photographs")
  4. In the Library Module select the menu {File}{Export as a Catalog...}
  5. This will create a new duplicate copy of the master catalog leaving all of the detritus behind.
  6. Open this new copy of the masrter catalog and report on the performance.

This would lead me (like Cletus) to think that your prime catalog is somehow corrupt, but it could also be that it is much larger.

How many images are in your main catalog?

On your main catalog you may want to also try these things first
  • Turn off "autromatically write XMP data to disk" if it is turned on.
  • Turn off "automatic address lookup" if it's on
  • Turn off "Face detection" if it's on
  • Turn off "Cloud Sync" if it's on
See of that imroves thjmgs

If you go ahead with the @clee01l suggestion with an "export as catalog", turn off cloud sync in your main catalog if it's on before you do the export as catalog. Then as soon as you open the new exported catalog, make sure that Cloud Sync is still turned off. If it's on, turn it off as quickly as you can. Do not turn it on in the exported catralog without further advice as there are some things you need to know and perhaps do first depending on how you are using the cloud version of LR.

Here is one that I was involved in another site. Are all your presets opened? Apparently scrolling over them creates a new preview for each one. You can hide them using manage presets or disable hovering.

Just had a power outage and my computer gas crashed. I will try your suggestions when I return from Indua. Thank you so much.

That is one powerful system. Should rip through even AI-based edits. Should last you many years.
