I'm working on a new MacBook Pro and trying to create an Import preset so that file copies get written to an external SanDisk SSD. I have identified the folder, but when executing the import I get a message "The files could not be copied to the backup location." I checked the SanDisk and saw the file had not been copied. To ensure that there wasn't a SanDisk failure, I copied another file from my desktop computer into the same folder and was able to find it with Mac Finder. Not sure what to do next.

In Mac Systems preferences, make sure that Lightroom Classic has the necessary permissions to the necessary Files and folders or Full Disk Access in the "Privacy & Security" Section.

Thanks for your response. I checked and did have read/write access to the drive. Checked with Geek Squad and the problem ended up being that the SanDisk wasn't formatted properly for Mac. They reformatted it so it now works with Mac and Windows and I was able to complete my task.

Yes, Most new diska will come from the Manufacturer formatted for the NTFS file system. MacOS can red this filsystem but lacks the capability to write. Your SanDisk instructions should have included a note to format for APFS if you are going to be using the disk on a Mac.
