Hi everybody
I've just updated Lightroom Classic to Version 15.5 and have now the following troubles:
Videos from my iPhone 15 Pro Max with iOS 26.6. will not be shown on LrC - I get the following info: An error occurred while working with the photo.

Has anybody the same issues?

However, the iPhone Videos will be shown on Lightroom 9.5!! I suppose that this is a bug in LrC.

Thanks for replies so that I can find out if I only have these problems.

Regards Andy

I have an iPhone 15 ProMax and just shot a video. It Plays fine in Lr Desktop 9.5 and LrC v15.5. I have a Mac Studio running v26.5.2.

You list Windows 11 as your Operating system yet mention the problem is on MacOS . Do your specs need updating?

How did you import your video from the Phone to LrC?

1. Did LrC import the Video into the catalog.. ?
2. What happens when you play the video from Explorer.

I just posted a report on the Adobe Community site in the Questions area. I will copy and paste it here since I believe it is related to your observation. I believe the issue extends beyond iPhone videos.

I updated to LrC 15.5 a few hours ago. Since then LrC has problems with video files. The first problem I noticed was that when I tried to synchronize a folder that had two new video files. After a couple of minutes I got the error message “An unknown error occurred while reading the video file. (2)”. I had just completed those files with DaVinci Resolve so I went back and produced the same files again to check if DR had made an error. When I tried again with the new files but got the same errors. I was able to play both videos without any issue using VLC Media Player, so they seem to be OK. I then shutdown LrC and did a backup including optimizing the catalog, and then restarted it to see if that made any difference, but same error. Then I started looking at other videos that were already in LrC and found that when browsing them in the Library module, most of them pop up a message “There was an error working with the video”. They will not play in LrC but work fine with VLC Media Player.

Prior to upgrading to 15.5 I did not experience any of these errors. Is anyone else seeing these problems?

If using Nvidia video driver I would update to the latest studio version. It may not solve the problem, but eliminates a possible cause.

What leads you to that conclusion? OP is running iOS26.6 on his iPhone; I'm missing where it implies he's using macOS, not Windows.

Hi, I uses Windows 11 Pro - but the iPhone uses iOS 26.6.
I did actually NOT import videos. However, all the imported videos (from the last 2 years) will not work on LrC 15.5

Hi
1: I actually did not import a video - all videos in my catalog do not work after updating to LrC - they worked very fine for years before the update
2. in Explorer the videos work perfectly

Well, that's exactly the same problem. I'm looking forward to your answer resp. Adobes answer...

Sorry, I misread the OS as MacOS.

So the videos taken on the iPhone are syncing to LrDesktop. Are they also syncing to LrClassic?

Assuming yes, select one and do Ctrl R to see the file in Explorer. Then right click and play with Media Player (in Win 10 language). Does it play OK? Is this what you mean about "in Explorer the videos work perfectly"?

Did videos play properly in Lightroom before 15.5?

No response from Andy5026, but if you read my post you will find that the videos that are already imported into LrC that are showing error messages, and the videos that will not import, have been tested using the VLC Media Player and play without any issues. None of the issues with either importing videos or playing videos within the LrC Library module were present until LrC was updated to version 1.5.

Given the lack of any useful suggestions on the Adobe forum or here, I decided to delete version 15.5 and reload 14.5.1. Once that was done, LrC now handles video files as before. I am now able to import videos and browse and play videos in the Library module. If Adobe or someone else finds a solution I hope to be able to go back to 15.5 since the mask adjustments are a useful addition.

1) New iphone videos (tested this morning) cannot be imported to LrC 15.5
2) All videos outside of Lightroom Classic 15.5 work properly, e.g. VLC, Windows Photos, etc. etc. They work also very well in Lightroom 9.5
3) The videos worked properly before updating to 15.5

Regards Andy

LrC updates are becoming a serious liability. I shall be holding off updating to 15.5 until well after 15.5.1 comes out.

Do you have a test video clip you can share which you cannot import to LrC.
Yes, here is a short clip, that works in LR 9.5, VLC, Windows Photo, but not in LrC 15.5 (see explanations below why I could not add the clip!!!)

HOWEVER:
1) the original clip is a move file and unfortunately this website does not support mov-files

2) I converted the mov-file with HandBrake to a mp4 file. But again, this website does not support mp4 files... (See attached list of supported files)

3) I reimported this converted mp4 file to LrC and it works perfect in LrC (!)

Conclusion: It must be a bug with mov.-files in LrC

Do you mean "imported" or "synced"?

Hi John

This is my workflow (for the last xxx years)

1) copying all iphone pictures and/or videos manually to a specific folder (e.g. Birthday/Name/date)
2) Importing this folder into Lightroom classic, adding further information like keywords, persons etc.

Regards
Andy

Ok... I was not surprised with your experience..

Movie features inside LrC are really only a token gesture...

Also, I have noticed various reports that Apple have stopped supporting various codecs, or various codecs packaged associated with certain movie file extension types. So.. say, a .Mov or .mp4 type clip may work while a different clip with the same extension may not work.. confusing but it is because the internal codecs may not be compatible with either the o/s or Lightroom.

I have recent experience of dealing with a Sony Fx3 video camera.. and the massive range of video recording options goes way beyond my mental capacity to accommodate. The experience also reinforced my personal desire to avoid video. I do use iPhone video clips for lots of personal reasons ( ie record work in progress on a building project), but keep them on my iPhone and use it as my video clip organiser. On the rare occasion I need to move it off my phone I treat it with care, expecting problems depending on what software I might need to use it with.

If I needed to use, say, iPhone, clips regularly within LrC ...... I would research how best to configure saving videos on my phone or source a software tool which I know could consistently convert the video to a LrC compatible format.

While Lightroom does support the MOV file type, it is quite possible that the Files produced by your iPhone 15 Pro Max are non standard. That said however. As I said earlier, Videos shot with my iPhone 15 ProMax are fine in Classic on my Mac Studio running MacOS 26.x. So the problem could be a bug in Windows version of Classic and something to report to Adobe or it could be related to your GPU , Driver or VRAM.

Thanks, that is totally clear now. Do you have Lightroom Mobile on the phone? This would allow you to import the videos into LrM and sync them via Adobe's cloud and down into your catalogue. You may find they will now appear and can be played, keyworded etc. It may also give a clue about where the problem lies.

Andy, take a look at the video settings on your phone. The evidence seems to point to a Windows bug, but I would certainly not rule out something non-standard in the files.

Thanks for your reply - I am wondering why Lr 9.5 (mobile / Desktop) play perfectly the mov-files, but as johnbeardy writes it could be a windows bug as mac users obviousely do not have the problem...
