Wondering if anyone else has run into this since upgrading to Lightroom Classic 14.0.1? Occasionally, when I press F for a full screen rendering of the photo, the screen simply goes black. This is not difficult to "solve." I simply press E or G to go back to a different view, then press F again. However, this is annoying to anyone who uses keyboard shortcuts almost exclusively.

Anyone else encounter this?

There is slugginshness in LrC v14 and /or Sequoia. For me the Screen goes black momentarily but quickly comes back in full screen. I have a very fase M2Ultra processor and slower processors might take longer to display

Thanks! I guess mine could be considered slow compared to the M2Ultra, but I'm on an M1Max. I have waited several seconds at times. No change.

Try waiting longer. If eventually it does switch to full screen then it is the sluggishness that I mentioned. If it never switches to full screen then it must be something else. And we Can look into that.

I'll try waiting longer as a diagnostic and will update this thread then. Thanks for staying with this issue.

Your mention of Sequoia in your first post, however, confirms what I have experienced. I went from LrC 13.5 to 14.0.1 a couple of weeks or more before upgrading the MacOS to Sequoia. That's when the problems started. One of my photo mentors is very cautious about OS upgrades. Wish I could roll back to Sonoma and forget Sequoia for a while.

I waited a month after upgrading LrC to 14. I noticed the sluggish behavior before I upgraded to sequoia 15.1

Yes, it happens regularly on my MacBook Air M2 with 16 GB ram. All software is up-to-date.

Follow-up to my previous post: no success simply waiting longer for the black screen to disappear. As James Messick posted, my software (Lightroom and MacOS) also are all up to date.

The attached was posted to Adobe by a Windows user. Any chance, however, that there might be something in the post that would apply to Lightroom Classic 14.0.1 on a Mac?

As John Ellis puts it, the Preference file gets "soiled" for no apparent reason and often resetting the preferences will fix gremlins such as this. While unlikely, the cause, the GPU can be disabled in Preferences Or perhaps LrC is trying to enable HDR in the Library view. That check box can be unchecked.

The fact that I use photo editing and database software (which seem very sensitive to change) on my Mac keeps me from upgrading to a new macOS right away. I wait almost a year until it is time for the next new operating system to leave Beta status and enter Release status before upgrading to the (now old) version.

This gives me a year to avoid the bugs in a new release and then a year of using that release after most (but never all) bugs have been worked out.

I do appreciate all who jump to a new release for their willingness to discover and cope with the inevitable bugs.

Unfortunately this also gives you a year of dealing with the bugs that don't get fixed in the current version.. Even the decimal releases through out the year, while fixing some bugs, also often introduce new ones. Whole number version releases fix bugs in the previous version while introducing new features. I usually update my OS automatically, Sometimes waiting on the "dot 1" version before doing so. I have never been disappointed and I have never had a bug introduced that was a show stopper.

I was hesitant about upgrading to the current release of MacOS, but pulled the trigger after a few weeks. I've noticed no ill effects, but I'm still a relative Mac newbie after using Windows for the last 25 years or so.

Thanks, Karl. I am generally just as careful/cautious as you are. In the case of LrC 14.0.1 and Sequoia, a knowledgeable acquaintance upgraded to both and had no problems. I thought I might expect the same.
