The release of CS5 tomorrow before Lightroom 3, which has been grinding away in beta for who knows how long, MIGHT be a heads up on the competitiveness of CS5 in many critical editing functions that people are testing for in Lr3. We'll see after the live demonstration from Adobe tomorrow at 8AM PST. No negative criticism meant here but I, like many other users, want and/or need Lr3 yesterday especially since re-editing Lr2 "finished" files in Lr3 has some limitations and I've got a ton of work waiting for Lr3. I want to say, parenthetically, that I've been in and out of the country [US] for the past several months with little of the 21st [correction courtesy of Mr johnbeardy below] century nearby more technical than a plastic coke bottle. As a result, I haven't done more than look Lr3 over in the usual places.

Adobe's rollout was impressive. Still waiting on Lr3's official launch though. My feeling is that with Ps Elements, Bridge, CS5's own image management features and a very aggressive photo editing suite, that Lr has serious competition within the non professional cohort. As Juliann Kost says, however, most users will want to use both Lightroom AND CS5.
