Just loaded LR2, and discovered the Retouch tool now has a sharpness option.

I've previously used the retouch tool in LR2B with exporsure and automask to 'fix' some high key stuff where the lighting was wrong (prom pictures) quickly and sucessfully.

I've currently got a number of gymnastics shots wher I need to isolate the subject from a very busy background. I've done a couple using PS3 - extracting the subject to a new layer and Blurring the background layer. But it's time consuming.

Just tried to do similar using the sharpness option (and auto mask) in the new retouch tool but I can't really see any difference, even dialing in -1'' in the Amount slider.

I know it's early days - but anyone else tried this? If not it's back to PS3 in the morning!

View at 1''%?
It is a general rule with Sharpening in LR, as it doesn't give a real impression at other sizes

Thanks for the replies

Viewing at 1''% with -1'' sharpening still doesn't seem to make that much difference.

Dialing in -1'' clarity does produce a blurring effect, but not as much as I can get by using PS and layers - so will stick with that for the time being until I have more time to play with LR2
