After an LR2 metadata update (keywords in my case), LR2 does not update metadata in DNGs in the shoot folder and displays and exclamination point (!) in the upper right corner of the LR thumbnail.
I can select a single or group of thumbnails in LR2 and do LR > Metadata > click "Update DNG Previews and Metadata" and the update takes place.
Am I missing something? Shouldn't this be automatic if LR > Catalog Settings > Metadata > Automatically Update XMP box is checked? Shouldn't a DNG be treated like an XMP since the "XMP" is buried in the DNG format?
And, along these lines, could the dialog box presented when clicking the Exclamination Point use terminology that is the same in the box and using language that is easier to understand? I suggest if the LR metadata does not match metadata in the image in another application, make one box say "Synchronize LR metadata with metadata in the other application" and another box say "Synchronize Other App metadata with metadata in LR".
If synchronizing metadata is to be a manual operation, can we have a Shortcut character?
