I have several Lightroom catalogs on my Mac (OS 1'.4.11). I exported 9 photos as a catalog from wedding catalog A. I opened portfolio catalog B and tried to import from the wedding catalog A export and first, when I select the catalog, it takes 3' to 6' seconds for Lightroom to allow me to click "Choose" (the multi-colored pinwheel is spinning during this time). Then when I click "Choose" a progress bar pops up and quickly goes halfway across and stops at "checking for duplicate photos". 1' minutes later, nothing has changed. I tried exporting from wedding catalog A without the digital negatives and the same thing happened. All exported catalogs open fine by themselves. Portfolio catalog B is an upgraded LR1 catalog, wedding catalog A started as an LR2 catalog. I exported some photos from wedding catalog C, another upgraded LR1 catalog, and, after the 3' second pinwheel waiting period, that exported catalog imports perfectly well into portfolio catalog B!!

What can be done? I am willing to go around this for today by just exporting the final images without a catalog, but is there a way I can make this work in the future?

Welcome to the forum Andrew.
Yes this issue is a PITA.
I am working on tracking what happens ready to file a bug report.
I have had it hang for 1/2 an hour before it finally does its thing.

I'm having this problem right now. Small catalogs, no stray lockfiles, but LR's been hanging for 45 minutes on "checking for duplicate photos". Any info on this bug?
