LR2.6 abysmally slow to start .... roll back to 2.5??

I've had 2.6 on the PC for about a week and am very frustrated. It seems to be demonstrating some sort of conflict or resource hogging. When I initially open the program, the screen with all the names seems to hang a very long time, then it progresses normally, and then suddenly it freezes up. The top bar goes from black/dark grey to blue and says "not responding" ...... and then finally it works correctly.

I am also finding CS3 extremely slow to open when I go to edit ("Edit photo in CS3") from LR2.6.

I have an XP machine with 4Gb RAM (and the /3G switch is activated). It ran beautifully until I upgraded to 2.6. How do I roll back to 2.5? I have no need of 2.6, my camera is in 2.5. The drive has almost 6'% of it's space open, photos are on a different physical hard drive.

Uninstall 2.6/reinstall 2.5 should allow you to go back. Seems very weird though... haven't heard other reports of the same problem, so I wonder if there's not something else going on, like a Windows update that ran at about the same time. Hope it helps though!

My catalog backs up once a week. It currently contains approximately 16,''' NEF's, so while not HUGE, it is of fair size. I had put off the back-up for several days (can't wait til 3 where it runs at the END and not the beginning of trying to do my work). That seemed to help. Then, someone pointed out "Optimize catalog" ...... I'd never heard of that, let it run, and now things seem better.

Has anything been installed recently ? Have you calibrated your screen recently ? It may be something external to LR / CS3 that is causing the problem. With auto updates at the OS level it's often easy to overlook patch updates etc...

Although unlikely a corrupted monitor calibration *could* be a performance problem at driver levels. Have a look at what else may have been installed and also check to see if your Windows install has a diagnostic hardware check. Often this is included with OEM installs of Windows.

Optimising the catalogue every couple of months is good housekeeping too :)

FWIW, I have since heard a few reports of 2.6 speed issues in Develop module (slow moving between images, lagging sliders) which I appear to be able to verify on the Mac version at least. The investigations continue!

I can confirm some performance issues on my "well-configured" Mac Pro since upgrading to LR 2.6. I haven't seen any startup issues, but rather many delays while browsing images in library mode, as well as the delays in the develop module mentioned by Victoria above. A thread discussing the issue on the Adobe forum died after 4 posts, so it must not be a widespread problem. I haven't reverted yet hoping for an update, but may have to in the future.
