LR won't send back-up to my external HD

I have my LR set up according to Scott Kelby's book. He advised setting it up so when I download my images into LR, a back-up is automatically sent to my LaCie d2. This worked fine until last month, when I got a message after the download was completed that certain functions were not able to be performed, namely backing up my images. It happened one more time with a memory card last week. It asks me to name another location to send the back-ups. Today I tried again, only I downloaded images that were in my old iPhoto library. I made sure everything was turned on, and the back-up box was checked. I successfully imported the images, but again, after everything was done, I got the message that the back-up didn't work. This time I wasn't even asked if I wanted another location. I thought that maybe the LaCie was full, although I didn't think it was. I was right, I have 222 gb of space available. I have no idea why this is happening. Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated.

It's possible that a backup was initiated when the drive was disconnected and Lightroom has gone to the default location. Have you confirmed the correct location?

When I imported my files yesterday, it had my LaCie listed in the window. It looked the same as when I first installed it.

By the way, I'm using an iMac and OS 1'.4.1

Hmmm.

Haven't encountered this problem before.

What have you tried? Different backup locations as a test?
Maybe create a new small test catalog with just a couple of imports.

As far as troubleshooting goes, we need to change a few variables and see what happens, or else we're stuck with "I don't know, it's working OK on my system."

I'd really recommend that you u/g to 1.3.1 or 1.4.1 (when it's released). What potential problems had you concerned, because that version fixed a good deal more than it broke?

I'll shoot a couple of test shots tomorrow and import them. As far as the problems, it was over at the Fred Miranda site. I can try and check their archives to see what people had problems with, but I really don't remember.

Hey guys, I went to my HD, clicked on the LaCie icon, and then went back to LR. I picked a recent shot and this time where it says to back-up, it changed from "LaCie" to "Lacie/volumes/back-up". I clicked on import, and didn't get any warnings. I checked my Lacie back-up, and the image was there. I did it 2 more times, and it's working. I don't know how it got de-activated, but everything is good now. Thanks for your help.
