LR won't see my top level folder as top level?

I have two Pictures folders:

Macintosh HD/users/kent/Pictures/
and
Storage HD/Pictures

Both are called "Pictures" and both appear as top level folders in LR.

However, they are listed differently in LR. The one on the Macintosh HD is shown as "Pictures at /users/kent" and the one on the Storage HD is shown as "Pictures".

If I try to rename them, the one on the Macintosh HD says that is can't be renamed because it is a top level folder...makes sense. This is what I would hope for. BUT, I CAN rename the one on the Storage HD.

This is a problem because what I REALLY want (and this used to work on a previous install...I just upgraded my hard drive) is to have LR think BOTH of them are top level folders...because when it does, it shows BOTH of them "at" their locations. For example, it USED to say "Pictures at /users/kent" and "Pictures at /Storage HD".

I don't know why it doesn't work anymore. Any thoughts?

OK...Had a brainwave after I posted that. I got it to work. Here's what I did:

1. In LR, renamed the Macintosh HD Pictures folder by double-clicking. I got the warning about it being a top level folder, but didn't care. I named it something other than "Pictures".
2. In LR, renamed the Pictures folder on the external drive to something other than "Pictures". By doing so, it renamed the folder on disk.
3. Closed LR.
4. Ejected the external drive.
5. Re-opened LR and renamed the top level of my Pictures folder on the Macintosh HD to "Pictures" again.
6. Closed LR.
7. Re-mounted the external drive and renamed the folder to "Pictures" using the Finder.
8. Re-opened LR and tada! It realizes they are both "Pictures" folders at the top level of each tree and so it renames them to "Pictures at /users/kent" and "Pictures at /Volumes/Storage HD/"

Yay!

For me, this is important as I do a lot of importing/exporting between drives and computers and I need a very, very consistent file structure between them all.

First make sure your Pictures folder on the HD is named Pictures in the LR Folder pane.

On the Storage HD, place an image outside the Pictures folder.
Catalog it.
Then from the Folder panel delete the Folder "Storage HD"
A dialog will ask if you want to promote the Subfolders or Remove entire Folder.
Select Promote.

You should now have "Pictures on....."
and your Pictures folder on your internal HD will also be renamed a "Pictures on..."
