We're on a Dual 2ghz Mac G5, running Mac OS 1'.4.1' and CS2

I Just upgraded to LR 1.2 and in the Web module I am unable to upload complete image folders (proof sheets) to my ftp space using Lightroom as I have in the past. Each upload seems to fail at different points during the process. Sometimes all necessary Lightroom folders get loaded but only partially, and other times only a few of the folders make it onto the server.

I've been using my Fetch window to check progress and then remove the damaged (incomplete uploads) folders before trying again. Each upload is a very long process, with much wasted time these past 2 days.

I've tried using fewer photos than the 241 (13 proof sheets) necessary for this job, and did achieve a correct upload using only 23 photos. But then tried another 23 photos, and that one failed during upload.

The error message I keep getting is "An error occurred sending the file: there was a remote disk error.".

I've checked the server logs and it appears as though Lightroom is disconnecting from the server and failing after trying to overwrite a file that it's already written. So we've localized the problem to lightroom. Also we have a machine running LR 1.1 which we've copied the job to and it performs in the same manner.

Has Lightroom corrupted the metadata for the files? Is there any way out of this mess?

Unfortunately, my clients are waiting on this to meet my deadline today!

Many Thanks for your help & advice ASAP!!

Yup, have tried sending to the local machine by turning on FTP, setting the location to 127.'.'.1 and the user/sites folder. Still behaves the same way.

I believe Rob means Export, not upload to your local drive, it can be the Site folder found at Library/Webserver/Documents. That os\is what I use and have my home page on board.

The FTP to your ISP server from them with what ever client you care. I use CaptainFTP.

Oh, and Please fill in your SIgnature (under User CP above) with System, OS, and Gear, as you see others have done.

Thanks, I filled in some stats. I think I replied right as you did so you didn't see my previous post. Have tried the export to my local drive in hopes that I could just copy the files via FTP by hand but Lightroom still behaves the same way. We did notice that it gave us errors from lightroom that say something to the effect that file xxxxx could not be copied because a file of that type already exists.

All the files were sequentially renamed prior to this failed upload by Lightroom. I wonder if the metadata somehow does not reflect those changes and is throwing an error when LR 1.2 attempts to write the files it needs.

it's beginning to hurt my brain.

Thanks a ton incidentally for all the help!

Two things, Having filled in your Sig you have to check 'Show your sigature, below the message post dialog for us to see it.

I saw that post. I'm saying DONT ftp to the HD. Just use the Export button, next to the Upload button in LR to have LR place the files there. Then FTP from there with the third party FTP client.

Don's got my meaning, but I'm still not sure where you are going wrong.

Try this:

- Click the "Preview in Browser" button. Does it run properly?

If yes, go to Web > Export Web Photo Gallery, navigate to your desktop, enter a name and click Save. Once the export is complete, navigate to that folder and open the index.html file in your web browser. Click through the gallery. Does it work as expected? If so, ...

Use your FTP client to access your web server, remove any of the files you uploaded via Lightroom. Copy the folder you just exported from Lightroom using your FTP client (not Lightroom) to your web server. Once all the files have uploaded successfully, attempt to access them via your browser. Does that work? If not, let us know which point it breaks down.

some results

we attempted an Export and it appeared to work (took an more than an hour because the number and size of images are large-ish)

We uploaded via FTP and all appeared to be fine. We did notice that a few random images were not complete. Only half of the image loads. This only happened on a handful out of 24' images we posted.

One thing I noticed was that when you select the "Preview" option it parses everything out so that it can be viewed by a web browser on that particular machine which in our case took an hour just for the preview. If I'm satisfied with the preview i choose Export (wait another hour) and dump it to my local drive for future FTP upload manually. Pressing the Export makes LR perform the same action as preview rather than use the data that was already processed.

Was I missing an "Export" button from the "preview" process that would allow us to not wait yet another hour for an export and use the files it generated for the preview? I wound up digging through the hidden temp folders and dragging out the prep-ed files for FTP and THAT worked but it's really not practical.

Also, what would have happened during the "upload" process that would have made LR quit the process entirely? We've seen the logs from our server and all signs point to LR executing a stop transmitting command.
Could corrupt metadata cause LR to freak out when uploading? Is all this somewhat related to the metadata problems I've been hearing about with 1.2?
