My first posting to my first forum. I want to remove everything from my iMac in order to upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard, then reload back. First job is to 'Export as Catalog' all my pics (around 6''') from the Mac to an external hard drive (Maxtor One Touch 4Plus, 45' GB available). I've tried 6 or 7 times and every time get a similar message - see Subject. I've deleted unnecessary folders, gotten rid of unused keywords, and exported 2''' odd of my earlier photos as JPEGS to archive to reduce the volume. I've reloaded LR and updated to 2.6. And in the Export dialogue box I've ticked 'Export Negative Files' and 'Include Available Previews'. The export gets to about three quarters of the way through each time before I get the error message and I have to abort.

Appreciate any assistance.

Raymond, welcome to the forums.

First stop is Victoria's guide to troubleshooting tips . Pay particular attention to #'s 4 & 5, if you haven't done these already.

Next guess is that there's a problematic or corrupt image file somewhere. You might experiment with exporting portions of your catalog in smaller bites, to try to narrow this down. (You'd think Lr could help with this, but sometimes it's less than graceful in its errors.)

If none of this is helpful, please get back to us with what you found (or didn't find).

Brad,

Thanks for your response. You may be correct and there may be corrupt file(s).

Someone suggested a different approach in my case :

Outside of LR I copied the hierarchy of ALL PHOTOS with all my subfolders over to the external hard drive (EHD) together with my latest catalogue back up. Then attached the EHD to my laptop, opened LR with that latest catalogue back up and went to the greyed out ALL PHOTOS folder in LR on my laptop and right clicked to 'Find Folder'. Once I located the ALL PHOTOS folder and selected it, all of those pesky question marks disappeared. A great thing to see.

I've taken note of Victoria's trouble shooting tips and will do as suggested to ensure everything's working properly.

Once again, thanks,

Raymond

Yes, that was an excellent suggestion. My thinking focused too intently on the catalog export problem, and not the big picture of moving a catalog. (That forest and trees thing :) )

Glad you're squared away.
