LR version1, crashing

I have been using LR v.1 with no problems until this morning. It crashes within 5 seconds of opening it - and that is without me trying to upload images or click on anything. I have read other similiar posts about deleting preferences and all that, but LR doesn't give me any time to try anything, just disappears and asks me if I want to report it to Apple.
I'm on an imac, 2.8 ghz intel core 2 duo, memory 2gb osx 1'.5.6

Carolyn, welcome, sorry you're having trouble.

Most of the recommended trouble-shooting steps are done outside of Lr with the program not running. Especially, deleting/renaming the preferences file.

You can find more specific directions here, especially #4.

If that doesn't help, report back and we'll try to narrow it down some more.
