LR show same HD 2x, and "imports" to the wrong place

I have all my images in two separate folder on a hard drive, my images and client images.

When I import the images they now appear under the second entry (see below) and the only way I can get them to appear in the 1st entry is to synchronize and re-import (trying to drag the images from below doesn't work as the images are already there, they just don't show.

I was hoping this was just a bug in the RC, but I've loaded 2.3 and still have the issue. I don't see that there is a way to delete the 2nd entry.

Ideas?

Reid, it looks to me like you need a top level folder for that second group.
I would place those folders in a new top level folder inside "photographs" in group one and synchronise Photographs.

If they don't get moved from group two you may have to remove those folders from group two manually..... but give the above a burst first.

And I'd guess that's carried over from the 2.' ghost folder bug.

Has anything changed along the way... capitalization of a folder name, drive letter, something like that? If you remove all of the images from that second drive from Lightroom (backup first, obviously), and then import as normal, possible with an 'Optimize Catalog' in between for good measure, does that stop the 2nd folder appearing?

As you suggested, I removed the 2nd folder, optimized, and re-imported, but as you can see below, it still puts the new images in the 2nd HD entry instead of the first under 2''9/'3..

I could move the client folder under photographs so I can import my own images correctly, but it's not what I prefer, and not what I've had to do in the past. I'm trying to think when it changed. I guess a month or so ago. I'd import my images, look at them on the screen, but wouldn't see them where I expected.

Any other ideas?

A screenshot of that drive in explorer, to see how the folders relate to the root of the drive, might help.

And the drive name/letter hasn't changed?

My other thought would be to force LR to update the paths, hopefully thereby correcting the problem at its root. I'd guess, if you looked at the database itself, that there are different relative paths somewhere along the line.. Obviously run backups first! But then I'd try changing the drive letter (Lightroom closed) and reopen LR. Relocate all of the folders, which would then be showing as missing as they'd no longer by D drive. Then close LR and change it back, and relocate again. You'd only have to do it for those few parent folders, not all folders. Hopefully that would fix it at source.

I deleted the client folder, then tried to re-import (2 different ways), and it created the 2nd HD entry again and put in the '3 folder.

Is this some type of corrupted catalog and should I just re-create a new catalog?

I think what's happened is the relative path names are confused. Try the changing the drive path trick above, and hopefully that'll do it.

Just for fun....I'm creating a new catalog. What should I remember to bring from the old catalog? Can I export or copy smart collections and collections over?

I guess I'm not doing it correctly. I changed the drive letter. Re-opened LR, navigated to the catalog, opened. The folders had "?" marks, so I right-clicked on find missing folder, on the drive with the changed drive letter, and I get the message that the folder is already in the catalog.

Is there something else I should be doing?

LR started to import photos from the re-named drive (z), so I deleted the folders in the original d drive, closed LR, renamed the drive back to D: and am re-importing. Don't know if that'll do it, or it I even completed what Victoria suggested or not.

Everything's OK now.

I changed the drive letter, opened LR, I changed the drive letter. Re-opened LR, navigated to the catalog, opened. The folders had "?" marks, so I right-clicked on find missing folder, on drive with the changed drive letter, and I got the message that the folder is already in the catalog.

I saw that the folders on the re-named drive were now starting to show, so I deleted the folder from the old D drive, closed lR, re-named the drive back to D, opened LR, then re-imported.

Now the clients are listed above photographs, where they should be, but never have been, and new images import to the right directory.

Reid, personally I would now make a new catalog (with 2.3) and import from your old one, databases can be kinda funny in my experience.

I'll check the folders, but are smart collections, collections stored in folders, if I did want to create a new catalog?

It's working fine.

Now if I could just find the "create website" button that'll sort, rate, group, create copy, optimize images, assemble, test, and post my website.

That button is located in the bottom left of the Auto Panel in the Simple Module.:shock:

LR 5.5 of course!!
