Hello! First post here on the LR Queen! Just looking for a little assistance...I upgraded my camera over the holidays to Canon 6D mark II, and ever since I have had a very hard time getting photo previews to load on the Library screen in LR. I have updated to LR 9.2 version, and previews worked normally for a brief time after that. But again with this latest group of photos, all the thumbnails say "preview not available". Would anyone be able to point me down the right path? Thanks so much

Hi and welcome!

I note you're trying to see them when they are still on the SD card or camera - can you confirm once they are in Lr the previews are fine? As it used to work, I'd wonder about the card or cable connection. You could copy (in Windows Explorer) the files to a hard drive first, then check you can see the previews - that would narrow down the source of the issue. Be sure to format the card too after the files are saved off.

Another thing...if that's a card reader that you are using, Lightroom is now supposed to access it through the Files section, not the Devices section. Did you manually change the selection to Devices? Can you try selecting the D drive in the Files section to see if that makes a difference?

Hi Jim,
Thanks so much for your reply. I downloaded to my pictures folder on the hard drive and I am able to view the photos there. However, even if I select the hard drive as the source to import from, it still says "preview unavailable for this file". I also tried to choose the D drive specifically, no dice... frustrating, I did not have any trouble uploading when the files were from my old camera (Rebel T3i).

You don't "import" photos to Photoshop. Photoshop "Opens" files to edit. The Lightroom "Import" makes a reference to your photos in the Catalog database. There is no similarity.

A rare possibility- Are you sure you loaded Lightroom-Classic to Import this time? Is is possible you opened an old version that is still installed in your system? Check that you only have Classic v9.2
