LR maintenance

Sometimes when LR is dormant for a while, the hard disk starts working busily for a few minutes. I've tracked this down to a LR operation although I haven't asked it to do anything. Is this some kind of automated maintenance operation that LR does by itself? Is it safe to interrupt it?

Have you got 'automatically write to xmp' turned on in preferences, as that would have that effect.

If not, don't panic, it may be deleting previews, things like that. Either way, yes it's safe to interrupt.
