Exact Lightroom Version (Help menu > System Info): CC Latest Update

Just started today.

Lightroom is creating Temp and Parent folders. Downloading freezes (hangs up) and then starts again and then hangs up again etc. It looks like there is a "Temporary Folder" for every individual images.

Downloading from Nikon D810.

As it hangs up, then it jumps forward (downloads) about 100 images at at time.

Advice please.

Many thanks.

The Temp folder business was introduced in Classic 7.0. They are cleaned up automatically at the end of the import process, so there should be no need to worry about them.

The apparent stall followed by a burst of 100 images is a new method of importing that was introduced in 7.1, and is currently under review (as a few people have complained about it). Whether it will change or not I don't know. So it's not actually "hanging up", it just appears as though it is, which is the point that has been made to Adobe. The overall elapsed time of the import process should be the same or better than previous versions, but I don't think it is. Certainly in my testing Classic 7.0.1 was the faster.

There's also another problem which I noticed when testing, and that is that if your import is copying to a standard HDD (as opposed to an SSD) then it's taking much longer than any previous LR version (at least on Windows 10). On my OSX system this effect is not as pronounced, but is this there. I think that's a bug, and have filed a bug report.

Advice? Import to SSD if you can, at least for now.
