I import into a main file called 2''8. somehow, my 2''8 file has created a subfolder with date folders in it and then again another 2''8 folder with date files in it.

i suspect this happened because i shoot with 2 different cameras and if there was already say a 3-1'(date) folder shot with camera 1, then when i imported photos with camera 2 also shot on 3-1' that LR puts them in a new 2''8 subfolder. At least thats my theory?

whats the best way to get all my photos back into the main 2''8 folder when you i may have a duplicate file name?

is there a way to edit my subfolders, some are formated 3-1' and others are formatted '3-11-2''8. is there any easy way to rename?

I would guess that in the Import dialog, you chose "Copy photos to a new location and add to catalog". And in the "Copy To: location, you chose your date folder rather than your top-level folder.

You can just drag them to the right place in Library to correct it. And to rename some of the folders, right-click on them (in Lightroom) and choose Rename.

actually it was always set to the top 2''8 file.

i guess part of my question is, would LR create these because i 2 cameras? i import my 4'd usually day of shots, my wifes p and s i import every couple of weeks.

if there was already a sub file called 1-1' and imported shots from another camera tacken on 1-1', would it add them to the existing file?

Yes, it would keep them together by date. The camera id doesn't matter at that point, just the capture date.

The camera id is recorded in metadata, however, if it becomes important to separate the two. (or more).

I just finished a shoot with two DSLR's with different lens, and a P&S in my pocket, and all three imported and sorted nicely in capture time sequence. I was careful to remember to verify the date/time settings were correct in all three before I started.

I just had a thought, probably not applicable, but have you verified that both cameras are set to the same YEAR? Several weird behaviors in this area have traced back to cameras with identical date/time settings, but with different years.
