LR doesn't see scanner as image capture device

Hello
I have LR 2.1 64bit running on Vista64 on a 4gb 2.5ghz AMD system. No problems except it won't 'see' my Epson 449' scanner. When I select 'Import from Device' it returns 'There were no image capture devices to import from'.

I wouldn't ask the question here except that I also have Elements 6 running on the same machine and that immediately recognises the Epson and works perfectly with it. The Epson proprietary scanning software also works fine.

Plainly there are work-arounds here, but I was hoping to be able to import high res but manageable size files ( ie .dng) from scanning medium format transparencies, and Elements 6 has a lowish file size limit and the Epson scans produce huge files if you select a lossless format.

I've had a good hunt around all the resources without seeing anything similar - although I see a few people have had trouble with LR not seeing their cameras.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this, and if you have any ideas you'd like to share, thanks again.

Nick

Hi Nick, welcome to the forum!

There's a difference in the 2 programs - LR is primarily designed for digital cameras, not scanners. Elements uses a TWAIN interface for the scanner.

Best bet - use scanner software to scan to file, and then import those files into Lightroom from the hard drive.

Just a thought, could you set up a "watched folder" in lr and then scan to it?

Lightroom is unaware of the process creating a compatible file in the watched folder. So, it should work. :)
