Hi there
I'm new here and pretty much a LR novice, although i have been using it to edit my photos for a little while. I'm using LR 6.
A while ago i noticed that whenever i used the colour selector - not sure of the correct name, but it sits in-between HSL and B&W with the coloured boxes ..... anyway, whenever i select any of these coloured boxes. LR gets cranky and throws me out!!!
Any help appreciated
thank you
Brigette

Welcome to the forum. There are a lot of bugs in earlier versions of LR6.x It is important that you be on the latest revision LR6.14. Without knowing which version your are running, I have to say that you should start with the last update (LR6.14) If your problem does not go away, then the other culprit probably is with the GPU driver and whether GPU acceleration has been turned on in Lightroom Preferences.
If you go to the sub-menu item {Help}{System Info...} and copy System information into your reply post, I can better diagnose the issue.

You've already gotten good info on upgrading Lightroom. And it looks like you ave succeeded that task.
Next, you should to update your OS to 10.14[4].

Your Graphics processor passed so GPU acceleration should not affect your Develop module.

Free space on your primary disk drive might cause the Develop module to crash as LR uses the working storage on your primary drive to create temporary files. I recommend keeping ~100GB free for working storage and the Swapfile.

With 4 GB of RAM you may have performance issues. I find the minimum RAM for acceptable performance is 8GB and the minimum for reasonable performance is 16GB.

Feel free to return here if and when you have more questions.

Hi and thank you! for the suggestions and advice. Yip I really do have performance issues... which are a pain in the @#$@#&!!! I've been thinking about getting more RAM if i can.. I'm not sure how to do that or how much it costs.. but it's definitely something see how I do that.

Could you explain Free space on your primary disk drive might cause the Develop module to crash as LR uses the working storage on your primary drive to create temporary files. I recommend keeping ~100GB free for working storage and the Swapfile.
I'm not too sure what that means. Are you saying i have too much or not sufficient storage? Arghhh. so much to learn!!
thank you :)

Freespace: If you have a 512GB disk drive and you have loaded 320GB of permanent files, you have 192GB of Freespace for MacOS swap file and temporary files that apps like LR will create during the time they are running.
Check this website Apple Mac Memory/ RAM Upgrades from OWC to see if your Mac can have a memory upgrade and instructions to do it your self.

Hi again.. crikey you guys are so helpful!!!
I get what you are saying about the space.. but i'm not sure if i have too little..
anyway! I've checked my system specs and i think the maximum I can upgrade my RAM to is 8GB, but i'm not confident to do this myself!! even though your videos make it look easy and so does the step by step guide on my Mac.. Even 8 will be better than what i currently have!!!

It really is as easy as it looks, but I'm sure your local computer store would be pleased to help. If you go to Apple menu > About This Mac, we can double check the max for you.

OWS has a webpage devoted to this. All you do is supply the Mac details (e.g. MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012)) and they will provide the specified memory. My MBP (listed in the example) is limited to 8 GB. I find this usually adequate as long as the RAW files are not to complex and I don't run PS in parallel or any other apps besides email and Safari.

hi there.. i was a bit intimidated when I looked at the link and saw the 'toolkit' i'd need.. so i have a philips screwdriver (and know how to use it!!) but i'm worried about stuffing up my total computer..!!) I called a local techy place and they said that they could supply the Apple memory for $600NZ.. perhaps i've underestimated what this will cost! its easy to do that when you've got a mortgage! They guy also talked about using a non-Apple memory would be cheaper.. but I'm unsure if that's wise or not? If for example I used the link i've been sent here.. how does it work ? does the memory get sent to me? Sorry so many questions!!
In the mean time I hope this link works? I understand that when i do buy more memory that i need to get it in even amounts so to speak. thanks for your help :) MacBook Pro: How to remove or install memory

If your laptop is really 2009-2012 model, don't expect miracles, but it should help a bit.

FWIW, I've always gone with third party RAM (OWC/MacSales or Crucial) and been happy with it. It's waaaaaay cheaper than the Apple Tax, especially on an older machine.

that is reassuring. I think i'm going to go with a third party brand! The guy I spoke with also said that my disk is probably a bit tired .. So it should help .. but no miracle!! time to save for a new laptop.

Just a short note to say thanks Victoria and team for your encouragement to get my A into G and upgrade my RAM. I did it through a computer store and wow. what a difference! :):):)
