Maybe I'm missing something simple, but I seem to recall that Lr Classic would always show the correct destination folder in the sidebar of the Import module, not the root, when using the "Organize by Date" option. There were occasions when I want to move that around, or just verify where it's going, but now I have to drill down from root level to see where it's putting things. Is there a way to get Lr to show the destination without have to drill down? Changing to "View Affected Folders Only" doesn't seem to make any difference.

Do you mean the 'dock folder' feature? Double-click on a destination folder. That folder will then be shown as the top folder. Double click again and you will see the entire hierarchy.

That's the problem; docking doesn't "stick" between import sessions. So if I do have to dive into the destinations to change them, I have to drill all the way down from the root level of my boot drive, a big PITA.

I suggest to create and use an import template :

Set all import options (including the destination folder) as you want, then at the bottom of the import window, clic on the littel double arrow

In the list, select "Save actual parameters as a new preset". Give this preset a name.
Then, at each import, verify this preset is selected.

That's a good idea, but it doesn't solve my particular problem. The files go to where they're supposed to, but if I say choose a folder, then save as a preset, then use the preset at the next import but want to select a new folder, I still have to drill down through the hierarchy of folders. In other words the presets saves the import folder but NOT the docking state, and it's the docking state I want to save so that when choosing new locations I don't have to spend so much time finding the folder I want.

Since I have dated folders on more than one volume, and since I'm current importing images from a drive with a variety of years, I have to do a bunch of switching around as I import from destination volume to destination volume. Be nice to start where I left off.
