I installed LR CC and opened my catalogs through LR CC and converted them to LR CC catalogs. They all work fine.

BUT, if I'm outside of Lightroom and go to the location of my LR catalogs and double-click on one of the updated catalogs, Windows tries to open it with LR 5 and I get an error message that the catalog is an updated catalog and LR can't open it. So the only way to open an upgraded catalog is to open LR CC and then switch to the catalog I wish to open (if it isn't the last catalog I opened, my preference is set for that).

I know I can change the file association in Windows to choose which program opens a file type, but there are several file types associated with LR (lrcat, lrdb, lrmodule, lrtoolkit, lrweb) and I don't know if I just have to change it for the LRCAT files or for all of them.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

The way I approach this issue of having multiple catalogs is to change the startup option to "Always Prompt Me". I launch LR via the LR icon in the Taskbar (Windows) or Dock (Mac), then select the catalog from the ensuing list. I don't care what the file association is, nor do I need to go searching in Explorer/Finder to locate the catalog that I want to use.

If you're going to change the file associations, just the LRCAT files will do.
