LR CC crashes continuously on iPhone import

The header says it all. I am using CC 2015.7 on OSX Sierra. Never had a problem with importing from my iPhone5s before, but since I updated to Sierra I can't import anything. LR shows the images and as soon as I click the button import it crashes. I transferred the same images from the phone to the hard disk using ImageCapture and then imported them into LR and this time there were no problems.

No problems at all when I use the Apple camera app and tell Lr Mobile to import the images. They get moved to my desktop Lr catalog. The same goes for use the Lr Mobile camera app. Images moved to desktop without problem.
