I've completed long-overdue file maintenance of my digital pictures on my PC and hope to migrate them into LR within the next couple of weeks.
After this task is out of the way, I intend to convert my conventional 35mm film slides and negatives into digital form (probably with a Nikon Cool Scan) and take them into the catalogue I will have created earlier (unless it makes more sense to create a separate catalogue--and I'd appreciate some advice on that issue). Since the converted pictures will have no EXIF components and are several years old, the clues to the dates of the photographs are sparse; at best, a month and year may appear between sprokets on some, but perhaps not all, of the pictures.
What software or other renaming tactics may be most efficiently employed to sort these pictures into a plausible date order (at least by month and year as observed) to be incorporated in the principal catalogue or in a separate catalogue, if more practical?
