LR can't imort from Iphoto library

I am trying to consolidate all my photos now housed in Iphoto libraries (located on external hard disks) to Lightroom catalogs. I keep getting error messages stating that LR can't import photos to the desired location.
Can anyone help or point me in a direction?

How do you have the import dialog set up David? I'd set it to 'import files at their existing locations'.

Victoria, I believe the problem with current iPhoto images is they are stored in a proprietary fashion and 'import files at their existing locations' just doesn't work because LR can't see them. There are tricks to this that Johnbeardy has posted in the past, either here or at the UtoU. Would have to do a bit of a search for them. Hasn't come up lately.

Something to do with exporting in iPhoto and the like.

Okay, it was Aperture, not iPhoto! sorry. But iPhotos now has similar problems, AFAIK.
