Hey ,I have some pictures shot that were cropped bluebird pics with 4'' 5.6 cannot afford a 5'' L now :)
In LR I have 24' ppi selected . I have an Epson RX 6'' that prints pretty well .
Does LR automatically do a upsampling ,guess that is what you call it to the pixels ?
Or should I crop like this in PSE3 then save for LR .
Thanks
Don

''According to Mikkel Aaland in his book Lightroom Adventure LR interpolates using a Lanczos kernel method. But the real difference with Photoshop would be that it resamples in linear space, which unlike Photoshop avoids darkening around edges. Especially in upsampling LR should do a better job than Photoshop (again according to Mikkel Aaland)''

From Luminous Landscape LR forum .
Found my own answer but thought some might like to see what I found :)

There is still a ringing issue with the Lanczos kernal method used by Lightroom, which can cause halos. Try both and see which you prefer. In theory LR uses a better method, but sometimes it can be a personal preference.

Thanks for replying Sean . I did not know that about that method.
Raw Shooter Premimum blows away LR in sharpening from the start and I still use it a lot for birds but I think LR is great for printing:)

Using the mix of capture sharpening and the new output sharpening in 2 should help this a lot. Perhaps if local sharpening makes it into the mix, it might provide enough creative control for printing.
