Hi

I am using Lr5 recently my Lr has stopped importing photos. When l click import, knowing the photos are not in my catalogue. The dail appears at the bottom as it's searching, then that stops and no photos appear. I've tried this method even if the photos are in my catalogue, they grey out if they are when you untick do not import duplicates.
I've tried to find the answer but l am stuck.
Any suggestions would be most useful. Thank you

Have you tired creating anew catalog and importing some photos from your internal drive into the catalog (just a few are necessary)? What happens when you do that? This will help isolate the source of your issue(s) and will help in troubleshooting.

Hi Ken

I didn't consider that no as l don't want lots of catalogues and not knowing what photos are in that catalogue, unless you can name them?
I can try this later today and let you know!

Create a folder and copy (not move) an handful of images into it. When the test is done, you will just delete this folder. Try to create a new catalog to see what is going on. When the issue is resolved, you can delete this catalog and its related files as well. After you have resolved this issue, there will be no clutter, and the only remaining trace will be in the menu of last catalogs opened, and you can just ignore that. And it will eventually go away as only the last few are displayed. If you really do not want to try this, there are other troubleshooting options you can try.

Hi Ken

As you suggested l opened a new catalogue. Created a folder on desktop and copied a few photos into the folder and proceeded to import into new catalogue........Nothing, no messages, no images, nothing. I unticked duplicates, still nothing!??

What types of files are you trying to import - jpeg or raw? If raw, is it a file from a camera that is supported by LR5? If the camera is not supported, then LR5 will not import the raw file.

Hi Ken
Both files jpeg and Raw. If l try to find photos from a year ago in jpeg they aren't showing and l know they are already in they, they usually still show but greyed out. Lr isn't showing any photos at all!
I think this happened after a windows update, is they something l need to check to allow Lr into my drives?

Thanks
Vicky

This sounds like your external drive letter has been changed. What is the drive letter that LRC is looking for when you look at the image in the catalog? And what drive letter has Windows assigned to that drive when you view in in File Explorer?

Hi Ken
The external drive is F. I will need to double check this tomorrow and come back to you. I haven't changed any external harddrive names unless an update to Windows has done it.
How can l check what Lr is looking for, is that information in Import at the top right?

Hover over the folder panel in the Library and it will display the file path (which shows what drive LR thinks the image is stored on).

When l hoover over the folder files Lr is showing the correct harddrive.
I tried again to import some pictures which were JPeg. It picked these up, didn't display the pictures but noticed the Import button was active so l clicked it and the photos appeared imported to Lr. I can't work out what is going on or why it's suddenly changed.
Thank you Ken for all your advice, must be frustrating as you can't see what is actually going on just what people describe.

Not seeing is part of the challenge for both the members posting as well as those trying to assist, but it comes with the territory. Glad things are now working for you.
