I can't seem to import at all. The import screen initiates on start up, I can select or deselect, click on import and nothing.

After start up, the import button is unresponsive.

Is there a completely new method?

There are a few bugs in import, particularly:
Import hangs if there's a video file included in the import - exclude it
Import hangs if you rename with Image# or Total# renaming tokens
Large imports can memory leak, so do smaller chunks

Thank you for the quick reply Victoria. My import is via memory card reader and contains 19 .nef files from a D7''. I'm using a MBP with Leopard 4mb ram. I didn't set any rename parameters.

Any suggestions?

Try manually copying them to the hard drive and check whether you can import from there. Remember, it's an early beta, so you don't want to be using it with your only copy of files anyway.

I did an initial import from files on my hard drive. About thirty. Now, I cannot do that either. The import button and import thru menu are unresponsive.

Maybe I'll try a reinstall. It would seem thru a google search that not too many are experiencing the same problem.

Hope you're able to get it working. It would be worth posting this on the main Adobe beta forum so the engineers see it too.

Later that evening I fired it up and everything is fine. This morning as well. I get the feeling it was a one time issue. Maybe a Leopard/LR3 combination effect?

Thanks.

That is good to hear!! Thanks for reporting back. ;)

I did not think you could only import 1 image from a "catalogue".

However, it did take me a while to spot the big arrow in the bottom left corner of the import dialogue which opens the new super import screen which is a great improvement.

Then click on the downward pointing arrow head in the box in the lower LH corner to bring up the full import screen, navigate to folder with the image, click 'Uncheck All' and just select the the image you want, then click import.

Thats a large step backwards. In the current version it's relatively fast to import a single photo: file; import photos from disc; It goes straight into the folder structure and your flying, doing this adds several steps that are really convoluted.

I would agree with the comment above. In addition, it seems much more difficult to "import from device" which is what I normally do. I just connect the camera and import directly from device with LR 2.5 and it is on the first level of the import menu. Very convenient. I'm still not able to find import from device on 3 Beta.

Yer, I'm not trying to import from a catalog though (but I did try that) just trying to get one image in for a play with the editing toys, opps I mean tools :D
[/quote]Did you try dropping the file on the LR App icon?
