Hi,
I've just installed Llightroom 2 and encountered a problem importing from a compact flash inserted in a card reader " file-import photos from a device" nothing happens Also when trying to import via the import tab the card reader is detected but nothing happens when pressing the tab
I've posted this question on dpreview forum but without any success yet...

Any ideas what's wrong?

Thanks,
Ilan

Ilan, Welcome.

I'm not sure we can offer anything beyond the suggestions in the dpreview thread.

When you click the import button, lower Left Hand Panel, what do you see? A file browser to select a location, or the dialog box with two buttons to choose a device or disk location?

What happens if you treat the CF card as a disk-drive?

Here is the message I get When I click the import button, lower Left Hand Pane:

If I treat the CF card as a disk drive then it works fine (as if imported from my hard disk)
I use win xp pro intel G33 chipset motherboard- pentium 2.4 ghz quad core-3gb ram (ddr2 8''mhz)
btw: the same problem occurs on 2 indetical computers!
Thanks,

Ilan,

Have you named the cf card to nikond1''? this could be the problem if so. As you can import as if it were a disk drive then LR is seeing the images and taking them in. I would use this method in the short term as a workaround.

Andrew.
Thanks for reply actually for now I use photo mechanic 4.5.3.1 for importing simultaneously to 2 folders (main+backup) incorporating all the relevant metadata & keyewords
Hopefully soon I'll be able to do it exclusively in LR2:)

Other than the standard trouble-shooting steps, see the Tips/Tricks forum, or a re-install, nothing significant comes to mind.

Does this happen with all CF cards? How do you format, erase them, etc.? I'm grasping at straws, here.

Hi, Brad
I've found an acceptable solution.
I treat the CF as hard drive, lower tab-import-choose file...
navigate to the CF select the folder within the CF, now press the lower tab
"import all files in the selected folder" this opens a dialog box
Now changing the upper dialog option to "copy photos to a new location and add to catalog" this enables all the LR 2 importing features including simultaneous backups. This works but not as it should be...
Thank you very much for your kind support.
