At Amazon.com the release date of this book is stipulated to January 2''9, usually Kelbys´ LR book is available at an earlier time regarding the release date of the software. What does this mean? Is LR2 postphoned until end og this year?

It doesn't really mean anything Autoxave, publishers have to put 'something' down without giving the date away, but they can move the dates around as they wish.

As Victoria said, I wouldn't put too much weight in Amazon as a source of release date information.

I fully agree with Victoria. Most publishers tend to be more pessimistic about release dates as many authors do not meet deadlines etc etc.

On a European forum one user recently reported the LR 2 final version were available for download on the so called Adobe license web (a restricted area on the Adobe web site accessible for frame contract holders only). So far there were no license keys provided. He says the official release date of the software would be July, 29th 2''8. I wish that to be true.

Definitely true is that LR 2 can be pre-ordered at a few European online merchants'. Price for a full license is about 27' EURO, an upgrade license is about 12' EURO. Having a look at Adobe's pricing policy during the last years it could be the same amounts in Dollars for the US.

Release date......maybe

I just preordered Scott Kelby's book from Amazon.com about 45 minutes ago.

It costs about $3' with free shipping and the estimated shipping date is September 18.

A "lowest price" feature comes with the pre-order. They guarantee that you pay their lowest price that is available from the time of pre-order until time of release.

I have his LR Version 1 book, and it's quite helpful in seeing the big picture and general capabilities of Lighroom.

I'd also like to point out the eBook(s) written by forum member Victoria Bampton The Missing FAQ which provides a handy reference manual for all the nitty-gritty details, settings and "How do I's...?". See her signature for a link and a discount. Not just another plug; I have both versions, and generally have at least one open on my desktop all the time.

Well I feel very honored that even someone with your level of knowledge is finding it useful Brad!!!

Your eBooks really are great. Good job with those.

*** Ian runs to the mailbox to see if the kickback has arrived from Victoria...

I also have his book, and while I find it helpful, I cannot stand his writng style and sense of humor. I am seriously considering Victoria's book as she has been a most helpful and patient here at the forum, but I would find it helpful to hear more opinions from others (mostly about layout and how things are organized). Brad, can you tell us a bit more about what you like in Victoria's book?

Fundamentally, it's written as a giant FAQ. There's a great huge 4' page hyperlinked Table of Contents, more or less module by module. Many, many related topics are cross-referenced by hyperlinks.

If, on day one, you began to make notes of everything you learned, saw, read, googled, etc. as you started to use Lightroom, this is the document you would have produced.

Victoria's introduction says:

This eBook is not intended to be a step by step introduction to Lightroom - there are already books which fill that need and some things are far too obvious to need a book anyway - but there is one big gap - troubleshooting and reference material. When you have a question, where do you look? Do you trawl through thousands of web pages looking for the information you need? Perhaps post on a forum and wait for hours for anyone to reply? Maybe try to figure out the Help files? From
now on, you look right here! Adobe Lightroom - The Missing FAQ is a compilation of the most frequently asked questions, presented in PDF format so you can easily search for the information you need.

As I said above, I frequently have both versions open on my desktop, not so much for working with LR myself, but when trying to assist forum members. Much of this stuff, I already know, but a glance at Victoria's book assures me I'm using the 'official' Adobe terminology, and am describing dialog boxes, menus, etc. correctly.

More importantly, it answers the questions you actually ask, and questions you didn't know to ask. Here's a sample page just from the table of contents. Remember, this is material copyrighted by Victoria Bampton, but I believe this is fair use in the context of a review.

Sorting, Filtering & Finding Photos.
Where have my photos gone?!
Can I set a default filter or sort order regardless of folder?
How do I choose a different sort order?
Can I reverse my current sort order?
Why can’t I drag and drop into a custom sort order or ‘User Order’?
Is it possible to sort by camera?
How do I sort my entire catalog from earliest to latest or vice versa, regardless of which folders the photos are in?
How do I filter my photos to show photos fitting certain criteria?
How do I filter my photos to show... just one flag/color label/rating?
How do I filter my photos to show... photos with no color label?
How can I use the Text filters to do AND or OR filters?
How do I change the Metadata filter columns?
How do I select multiple options within the Metadata filter columns?
Can I combine Text filters, Attribute filters, and Metadata filters?
How do I search for a specific filename?
How can I view all of the photos tagged with a specific keyword or keyword
combination?
Is it possible to display all of the photos in a catalog that are not already
keyworded?
Can I save the filters I use regularly as presets?
Can I delete the filter preset I created accidentally?

This is one page of the 4' page table of contents. The actual book runs to 397 PDF pages.

Several of the gurus and moderators here helped with proof-reading and verifying technical details, such as menu wording, dialog box names, things like that. 99.9% of the overall effort is Victoria's.

Perhaps a good metaphor is that books like Scott Kelby's and Martin Evening's are like "How to drive", while Victoria's is more like, "How a car works."

I don't want to come across as a raving fan-boy; it's not that the book is 'great' or 'changed my life', it's just that every bit of it is useful, if you're trying to get the most out of LR.

Thank you very much for such an encouraging review Brad!

Ken, if you have a look on my website, you'll find the full table of contents, and some questions so you can get an idea of how it's written. And there's no Kelby style cheesy jokes, I promise!!!

I have Victoria's two ebooks and can say it has been a wonderful investment! :)

Best,
Darr

Hi Victoria,

I had a quick look when I saw the link after LR 2.' was released last week. Unfortunately, I did not have as much time to read as I would have liked. but, Brad provided us with a good "review" and that was very helpful. I will most likely pick up a copy after I get 2.' installed. I purchased and downloaded it last week, but my life has been swamped, and will contine as such for antoher week or two. Is your Forum discount time limited?

--Ken

Victoria, I signed up to be notified when your book comes out in paperback. Is there any estimated time for when that can happen?

Darr & Sean, thanks!

Ken, no limit on the discount here.

Ernie, I'm doing a mad dash to finish getting it print-ready, during my busiest work time of year, which is why I haven't been posting here much this week. I'm hoping the absolutely finished version will go off to the printers within the next week, and their turnaround time is literally a couple of weeks, so hopefully not too long!
