LR 2.6 and wacom intuos tablet

I am migrating to a new computer with win 7 and after installing my wacom tablet driver LR crashes when opening. Looking at the detailed info it looks like the wacom .dll file is causing it to crash. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I uninstalled the wacom driver and LR opens without crashing.

We've had a few reports of incompatibilities with the wacom driver. There's a post on the Wacom forum which says:
"Uninstall the driver, restart, serach for perhaps remaining files with the name wacom*.*, tablet*.*, pentab*.* and wintab*.*, especially in SYSTEM32 and SYSWOW64. Delete such files and then install either driver 5.11 or 5.21-6. Both should work fine.

If there is still a problem, try to disable the Windows service 'TabletPC Input Service'."

How did you uninstall the Wacom driver? Presumably this renders the driver and thus the tablet, inoperative. The reason I ask, is that I downloaded LR 2.5 to try it out because I have been told that it is a great piece of software and that I would probably benefit from using it. SO, I thought, why not download the trial copy and see what it looks like. I did this and installed it. As soon as I tried to run LR, I got a glaze over the initial panel and a message saying that windows was looking for a solution to the problem (LR 2.5 64-bit is not running or words to that effect). Like you, I am running a brand-new computer (Dell Inspiron now four months old) with 64-bit Win 7. Windows efforts ended with the display of a button that basically told me to close the program. I have uninstalled and reinstalled LR 3 or 4 times and even upgraded my nVidia graphics card to the latest driver and none of this seems to work. I have an Intuos 4 tablet and when I saw your post...my thoughts immediately went to the tablet. Any insight you can provide as to how to uninstall this driver and its many files would be appreciated. Is it simply a use of the Control Panel to uninstall the tablet, or are there Registry items that have to be manually removed as well. Thanks in advance.

I haven't been Windows based for a long time, but I'm pretty sure that the Wacom software used to appear in the Add/Remove Programs dialog, so give that a shot as a first port of call.

Victoria is right on the first step - I'd try the Add/Remove Programs dialog in the Control Panel first.

If uninstalling stuff there doesn't work, you can always access the Device Manager and uninstall it from there. I'm not on Windows 7 yet, but it's typically accessed by right-clicking on My Computer, selecting properties, Hardware Tab, Device Manager. On my current machine at work (Windows XP), the Wacom stuff shows up under Human Interface Devices. I can right-click on the Wacom drivers in there and choose to uninstall them.

As far as the tablet itself, some basic functions (moving the pen around, touching the pen to the tablet to click, etc.) will work without a driver - most computers will recognize it as a basic input device. You need the drivers to do the more advanced stuff (map it to your screen in the most efficient way, make it left-handed if desired, customize the pen buttons, etc.).

Victoria and breyman, thanks for the input. I shall give your suggestions a try this weekend - too many other things going on right now (Friday) and see if this solves my problems. Hopefully, this is going to do it.

Well, that seems to have solved the problem. Now Lightroom is asking for a catalog. I would like to create a new catalog from my old Photoshop Elements catalog, but the only one it can find is on called Catalog 6, whereas my current Catalog unde PSE 8 is called Catalog 8. I am not sure where this Catalog is kept, but how can I start a brand new catalog using images that are in the My Pictures folder?

Now all I have to do is find a driver that will work with my Tablet and not screw everything up. Any suggestions as to where to find this. I will try Victoria's suggestions first and hopefully they will work. Thanks to all for their help.

P.S. I just went to the Wacom download site and they have a new driver for the Intuos 4 tablet. It is version 6.1.3-5 and it seems to solve all the problems I was having with the previous version. HTH.

Thanks for this information! I have been having random crashes with Lr 2.6 for the past while and haven't taken the time to track down a solution. Hopefully this new driver for the tablet will work.
