LR 2.5 and LR 3 beta working together?

Like many others I have installed LR3 beta and find it better than 2.5 in some ways. Picking out details in the RAW file for example.

The workflow I am testing is like this:

1. import to my 2.5 catalogue
2. moving to LR3beta synchronizing my folder
3. adjusting the picture in LR3 and if I have already made some adjustments in 2.5 click on the triangle to update the settings
4. writing metadata to file in the beta
5. return to 2.5 and reading metadata from file

A few steps for sure, but what I am trying to do here, is to have my 2.5 catalogue updated with the beta´s better handling of the pictures.
When LR3 arrives it will probably convert my 2.5 cats and I don´t have to do anything with my old files to increase the quality.

Will this work to ensure that, or am I missing something?

I hope you realize that LR 3 Beta should not be used for "real" work.

Furthermore, its not entirely clear that edits made in LR3 will be readable by LR2 — or if they are readable, its not clear that LR2 will use them in the identical fashion as LR3 intended them to be used, and its not clear that LR2 won't somehow change your .xmp files so that it is readable and correct in LR2. And there's no guarantee that when you edit something in LR3 Beta, it will appear the same in LR3 Final.

I think your workflow has added a lot of extra work, and there's no guarantee that the results of your efforts will be what you hope they will be.

I agree. Look at LR3 Beta as a work in progress (it is) and just use it to see the possible features and enhancements that MAY be in LR3 Final. As with previous betas, there are features in there that will not make it to final and features in final that aren't anywhere to be seen in the beta.

Anything you do should be done on a copy of the original file. That way you don't have to worry about losing the file or doing something that will ultimately make it useless to you.

Also, be carefull of where you locate the LRcat for 2.5 and the Beta 3. It seems that the 3beta can take over the 2.5Lrcat as default and the only way to get 2.5 working again is to uninstall the beta.

Just to clarify, adjusting Develop settings in LR3 and then using the metadata in LR2 won't give the same results. LR2 doesn't know what to do with the new data.
